Your Itinerary

Day 1Embarkation Day

Your journey begins in the heart of Amsterdam, where you step aboard your elegant AMADEUS vessel. Settle into your stateroom and take in the first impressions of this iconic city. As evening falls, a refined welcome reception and dinner set the tone for the days ahead, followed by the warm sounds of a traditional shanty choir. Later, we cast off and glide gently into the Dutch night, bound for Arnhem.

Day 2Arnhem

In Arnhem, a city where history and modern life intertwine, your morning reveals stories that shaped Europe. A guided tour brings its past vividly to life, including the legacy of its famous bridge. In the afternoon, enjoy time at your leisure—stroll through lush parks, browse boutiques, or visit the renowned Kröller-Müller Museum with its exceptional Van Gogh collection. By evening, we continue our journey through tranquil waterways.

Day 3Middelburg

Arriving in Middelburg, Zeeland’s graceful capital, you are welcomed by centuries of maritime heritage reflected in its beautifully preserved architecture. After a guided walk through its historic streets, the afternoon invites you to indulge your senses: discover the culinary traditions of Veere or explore the windswept coastline by E-bike. As dusk settles, we sail on toward Belgium.

Day 4Ghent

Step into a world of timeless beauty. In Ghent, admire the magnificent St. Bavo’s Cathedral and its artistic treasures. In the afternoon, venture into Bruges—a UNESCO World Heritage gem. Here, winding canals, cobbled streets, and the aroma of chocolate create an atmosphere of pure romance. Enjoy moments of discovery at your own pace before returning on board.

Day 5Antwerp

Today reveals Belgium’s cosmopolitan side. Explore Antwerp, Belgium's second city. Known for its diamond cutting industry, fashion and the many great artists that lived in its vicinity, Antwerp is a city focused on art and culture.

Antwerp enchants with its refined elegance—home to the famed diamond district and the majestic Cathedral of Our Lady, where masterpieces by Rubens await. In Brussels, grand boulevards and iconic landmarks such as the Atomium reflect the city’s vibrant character.

Day 6Rotterdam

A day exploring the highlights of the Netherlands. In Kinderdijk, rows of historic windmills line the waterways of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, the Keukenhof gardens unfold in a breathtaking panorama of color, where millions of tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths bloom in perfect harmony. As evening descends, we cruise back toward Amsterdam.

Rotterdam is a city that's a long way removed from most people's stereotypical notion of the Netherlands. There are few, if any, canals to be found here nor are there any quaint windmills. There is, however, a thriving modern city which is one of the busiest ports in the entire world.

Days 7-8Amsterdam & Disembarkation

Back in Amsterdam, discover the city from its most enchanting perspective: the water. A canal cruise reveals elegant merchant houses and hidden corners of this vibrant metropolis. In the afternoon, experience Dutch heritage in Zaanse Schans, where windmills, traditional crafts, and local flavours bring the past to life. A visit to the idyllic village of Marken completes the day—or choose an active exploration by E-bike through the serene Waterland countryside.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is river cruising different from ocean cruising?

River cruises offer a more intimate experience with smaller ships and docking right in the heart of cities and villages. There are no sea days - every day brings a new destination.

Will I need a passport?

Yes. A valid passport is required and should be valid for at least six months beyond your return date.

How early should I arrive?

It is strongly recommended to arrive at least one day before embarkation to allow for flight delays and to begin your vacation stress-free.

How active is this trip?

River cruises involve moderate activity. Guests should be comfortable walking on uneven cobblestones, climbing stairs, and spending several hours exploring towns and gardens.

What will the weather be like?

Spring temperatures in the Netherlands and Belgium are generally between 45–65°F. Expect cool mornings, mild afternoons, and occasional rain. Layers, a light waterproof jacket, and comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended.

When is the best time to see the tulips?

Tulip season in the Netherlands typically runs from late March through early May, with peak blooms often occurring in mid-April. While nature can vary from year to year, your cruise has been timed to coincide with the height of spring flower season.
